A Guide to Storing Your Vehicle for Winter

When the weather starts getting colder, it is time to start storing your recreational vehicles for winter. Instead of having them take up space in your garage or on your property, leave them in the hands of Valley Storage. With 25 self storage locations across the northeast United States, we are trusted to protect your items and give you peace of mind. Check out the storage facility closest to you to find a storage unit or parking space to house your vehicle until you are ready to use it again. Follow our three tips below for preparing your vehicle.

1. Change Your Oil & Fill You Gas Tank

If you plan on storing your vehicle for three months or more, change your oil before dropping it off at the storage facility. You should also fill your gas tank and add stabilizer to prevent moisture buildup, gum and varnish.

2. Wash the Vehicle’s Exterior

Depending on the kind of storage, your vehicle will be either covered or uncovered. Make sure you return to your vehicle in good condition by washing it before storage. Then wax to prevent rusting and paint chipping.

3. Clean the Vehicle’s Interior

Animals are looking to get their hands on food, so do not give them a reason to sniff around your vehicle. Vacuum out crumbs, and toss any trash that has accumulated. Wipe down your interior so you do not leave any trace of food.
