Caring For Our Community

Meet Sydney Davis. She is a 13 year old 4-H student from Smithsburg, Maryland. This month, we’d like to take time out to highlight an incredible story about Miss Davis brought to us by our Valley Storage facility in Williamsport, MD.

“Over the past few years, Valley Storage has been an active participant in the Washington County Agricultural Expo and Fair. This year was especially rewarding for our company, as we had the opportunity to meet an amazing young lady.

Each year a large number of 4-Hers bake their favorite recipes to be sampled and awarded by a panel of judges. These delicious delicacies are then auctioned off to the highest bidder, with the proceeds benefitting a 4-H scholarship program. This year, there were approximately 50 baked goods for the choosing. Valley Storage had the privilege to purchase a delicious red velvet cake baked by Miss Sydney Davis for $110.00. Miss Davis is a very dedicated 4-Her, completing Dairy, Hog, and Home Arts projects, just to name a few.

There’s one more thing that makes Miss Sydney extra special. Last year Sydney had to leave the Ag Expo mid-week to travel to Baltimore, MD for a bone marrow transplant. Her doctors agreed to her request of postponing her bone marrow transplant three days, so that she could participate in the fair. You see, Sydney has a rare form of blood cancer. A portion of the proceeds from last year’s event went to Sydney and her family to help with expenses.

Sydney came to this year’s expo filled with good news: her cancer is in remission! She was able to bake her delicious champion cake and give back to the scholarship fund that had so generously benefitted her family the year prior.

Valley Storage is incredibly proud to be part of this remarkable young lady’s story. Above is a photo taken of Sydney as she delivered our prize-winning cake to us.

All of us at Valley Storage would greatly appreciate if you whispered a little prayer for Sydney, enabling her to continue to heal and be cancer free by the fair next year. The challenges ahead of her are still great, but as She still has challenges ahead of her, however we feel Thoreau said it best when he wrote:

What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.”

We’d also like to encourage you to seek out youth programs deserving of support. Our future depends upon their success.”
