In 1825 Akron Ohio officially became a town and started its own future with just 200 citizens. The town consisted of many Irish migrants who were here to work on the famous canal that started the big industry boom in Akron, Ohio. After the canal was built the town saw business growth and the community double in size. By the turning of the 20th century there were roughly 42,000 people occupying this land. Our town has been through many transitions but what we have kept our neighborly attitude. With open arms, we welcome people to come explore our little stop on the map.
Today Akron is home to the AA baseball team the Cleveland Indians and Akron Racers. We have come a long way since the first 200 citizens. If you are stopping for a day or staying for a lifetime the Akron Zoo, Art Museum, and Canal Park are great sites to see. The canal that began this town is now a great spot for hiking and biking called Canal Park. Akron, Ohio has parks and rural areas to help you get away from the hustle and bustle of the town but also has a vibrant downtown scene. You can catch a show at the Akron Civic Theatre or grab some drinks and bust move at Musica. You can also travel the galleries in the Arts district and see all the contemporary artists.
